In light of recent events where a friend of mine was suspended for having such a folder, I decided to observe those who had been affected and determined that a logical and calm way to deal with these needs to be made.

"So, Typh," you may ask, "what are 'Needs Improvement' folders, anyway?" Why, my dear readers, they're simply a Favourites folder that some people will dump art in if they deem that the piece 'needs improvement'. Usually, (and I just yanked these from the Newest section on the main page, so I'm not specifically targeting anyone) submissions like

Adopt Points by madadoptsagain the red hair by OoAquarelaoO and Meloetta by prettyXblueXeyedXone

will be put in these folders, leaving the uploader confused and most likely frustrated. Honestly, and this is my opinion, I think that all art should be dumped in such a folder. Anyway, the target of these folders will definitely want some answers. While I think that going after pictures such as the ones above specifically is a bit biased, the folder maker has an unspoken point. The art needs improvement. Of course, ALL art needs improvement in one way or another, but the folder maker is usually trying to get the point across to 'lesser skilled' targets.

"Oh noes!! Someone put my art in a Needs Improvement folder!! That hurt my feelings!! WHAT DO I DO?!?!?!"

Whoa, there. Whoa. Whoa. Calm down. That's the first step. If you find yourself in such a situation, calm the tits. Freaking out over it will usually lead to unnecessary dArama and bannings (or suspensions). Before breaking down, ask the person with the folder why your art was put in the folder. Usually, the folder's owner will be nice enough to explain and even critique your art. In that case, you might actually end up being friends and everything will be happy sunshine joy.

If the person doesn't respond right away, don't panic about that either. Give them a bit. In the meantime, check the folder for a description about the folder's purpose. Some people will have an explanation in the folder for your convenience.

What you SHOULDN'T do is go to your friends and freak out. That starts a chain reaction, and can cause people to sling threats or spamming, or even harassment. Some people I've seen freaking out over a NI folder made hate groups towards the user, which is just horrible and completely taking it too far. Don't panic, and for goodness sake, don't amass your friends like some sort of lynching party!

If you do not want this person putting your art in the folder, and do not wish to engage in a conversation, block them. Go to your Settings, find your Block List, and type their username there. It removes your art from their folder and they can't add anymore of your art to the folder, ever again. Problem solved!

In fact, if you're going to panic over it, just block anyway. Don't do anything else. Most of the time, the folder makers just drag and drop the pictures in the folder and move on, never making an attempt to contact you. They most likely wouldn't give a damn if you blocked them.

Please note that Needs Improvement folders should NOT be associated with 'Crap' folders. A folder such as that, where a person will just put the art in a folder that says 'Crap', 'Shit Art', etc, is just plain cruel and definitely should be reported. However, please handle such things with the same care as a NI folder and don't panic, just block. The less dArama, the better!

This happened to me and I totally acted way off. I need to apologize to the person who put my art in it.
